For our final trip before Bonnie’s retirement, we traveled to Texas in April of 2023. We are trying to visit all 30 major league baseball parks and we checked two more off the list with this trip. We also toured both Bush Presidential Libraries and the Daley Book Depository Museum. Scroll through the pictures below to share this adventure.
It was raining the evening that we went to the Texas Rangers game at Globe Life Field. Fortunately, the local hotels run a shuttle service, so we stayed fairly dry. And, of course, it is a covered stadium and the roof was closed. Rangers beat the Oakland Athletics 5 to 2 – and, would go on to win the 2023 World Series!

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is located within the former Texas School Book Depository building and chronicles the assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. It was very interesting and we would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Dallas.

The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum is located at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. We spent about three hours on our visit – certainly could have spent more time. Since it was such a big part of our lives, we found the exhibits on September 11, 2001 particularly interesting, as well as emotional (photo at right: steel from WTC).
George H.W. Bush’s Presidential Library can be found on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station – about 1.5 hours northwest of Houston. The setting is lovely and also contains the Bush Family Gravesite, where both the President and First Lady are buried. Their young daughter, Robin, is also buried with her parents (died from leukemia at 3 years and 9 months of age).

We left College Station, and spent the next couple of days in a rented beach condo on Galveston Island.

Our final two days in Texas were in Houston – first at the Houston Space Center, and then at the Houston Astros game. The home team lost to the Phillies with a final score of 3-1. It was pouring rain with thunderstorms in the area as we walked back to the hotel. We were absolutely drenched when we got to our room. We dried off, hung our wet clothes in the shower and went to the bar!

A final picture as we are departing from Houston at sunset on April 29.
